About the position
We are looking for an experienced Backend (Java) Engineer to join a long-term project in the insurance domain. The project brings together three interconnected applications into a unified ecosystem supporting claims handling, valuation management, and comparison of repair estimates with counter-offers.
The role focuses on backend development in a highly integrated environment, where multiple systems communicate through APIs. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of backend services while ensuring seamless integration between applications.
Key responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain backend solutions using Java and PostgreSQL.
• Implement and maintain integrations between multiple systems using APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
• Support the modernization of existing applications, including Java version upgrades.
• Apply secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
Required Experience & Skills
Must have
• Commercial experience with Java 8 backend development (experience in upgrading Java versions is a plus).
• Experience working with PostgreSQL.
• Experience integrating systems via REST APIs in a complex, interconnected environment.
• Knowledge of Apigee.
• Understanding of application security principles, including OWASP Top 10 and secure coding best practices.
Nice to have
• Experience upgrading applications to newer Java versions.
• Experience with AWS.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AI-based OCR and document processing.
