Principal Scala Developer
Project Overview
We are looking for an experienced Principal Scala Developer to lead the technical direction of a newly established development team for an international e-commerce and classifieds platform.
In this role, you will take ownership of the technical backlog, guide the engineering team, and drive backend architecture for a high-traffic platform. Your primary focus will be engineering scalable SEO and GEO solutions (dynamic page generation across brand, model, year, and region, dynamic indexing logic based on supply thresholds, and crawl budget efficiency) within a complex codebase.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead backend architectural decisions and service development using Scala.
• Own the technical backlog and establish best engineering practices, tooling, and onboarding processes for the team.
• Lead performance optimization efforts and enhance scalability across high-load applications and services.
• Design and implement complex SEO engines, dynamic indexing logic, and internal linking optimizations.
• Proactively research, troubleshoot, and resolve deep technical issues impacting system efficiency and end-user experience.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify system bottlenecks and deliver robust technical solutions.
Requirements
• Extensive, proven experience in backend engineering with Scala at a Principal, Lead, or Senior level.
• Proven ability to own technical backlogs, drive technical strategy, and mentor engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in system performance tuning, scalability, and navigating complex codebases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization (Kubernetes).
• Strong problem-solving mindset with the drive to investigate complex technical challenges.
• High level of independence, technical leadership, and collaborative skills.
• Fluency in English (B2+/C1) for daily cross-functional collaboration.
Nice to have:
• Background in high-volume e-commerce, classifieds, or specialized SEO engine architecture (crawl budget optimization, dynamic indexing).
Offer & Project Details
• Hourly Rate: 170 - 180 PLN / h + VAT (B2B)
• Work Model: 100% Remote
• Start Date: September 1, 2026
• Initial Contract Duration: Until January 31, 2027 (with strong potential for long-term extension)
