Senior Java Backend developer

O projekcie:
Bulk payments through a file upload sound simple until you build them: many transactions in one file, validation for each of them, and an existing banking backend that has to accept them. You’ll write the Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.5 services that bring business banking to an e-banking platform, as part of a new team.

THE CLIENT & THE PROJECT
Our client provides IT infrastructure, platforms and applications for three Austrian banks. Its e-banking app currently serves private customers; the next step is new features for small and medium businesses, including bulk payment processing through file uploads.
These are built as new services alongside the existing app. SPG already has around 13 people working with this client on another project, so you’ll have colleagues on the ground. The team works in English.

YOUR ROLE IN THE TEAM
You’ll join the new SME team while it’s still being formed, so you’ll be among its first members. The planned setup is three backend developers (including the Tech Lead), three frontend developers, three manual QA engineers and one test automation engineer. You’ll share the Java codebase with the Tech Lead, who codes at least half of the time, and one more backend developer, work closely with the SPG architect and report to the Tech Lead.

HOW IT STARTS
- First weeks: Get to know the existing app, the EJB middleware and the target architecture defined by the Tech Lead and the architect; - Next: Deliver the first SME services and their integration with the existing backend; - Ongoing: Own backend features from design to production. Concrete milestones will be agreed during your first weeks.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Write production code in Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.5; - Build new SME services, including bulk payment processing; - Integrate them with existing Java EE / EJB middleware; - Read legacy JSP code to understand existing behaviour and dependencies; - Work with Redis and MS SQL, and review your teammates’ code.
YOUR PROFILE
- You have 7+ years of commercial experience with Java, including Spring Boot in production;- You’ve worked with or integrated Java EE / EJB systems;- You’re comfortable with relational databases, ideally MS SQL;- You’re comfortable shaping solutions while requirements are still evolving;- Banking or payments experience is a plus, not a must.

FAIR TO SAY
This isn’t a greenfield project without legacy constraints. The new services must integrate with EJB middleware and older JSP code, and both the team and the scope are still taking shape. The role is hybrid: you’ll be at the SPG office in Kraków 2 - 3 days a week, and for now you choose which days. If you prefer a fully defined spec or fully remote work, this may not be the right fit.
