About the role:
Bizee helps entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. We're looking for a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer who combines strong software engineering skills, practical AI expertise, and the ability to understand how people work.
You'll use product and operational data, customer behavior and feedback to understand workflow problems and turn them into reliable software. You'll own your solutions from discovery through deployment and adoption, clarifying requirements, making sound trade-offs, and measuring whether your work delivers the intended value.
AI is a core part of this role. You'll build AI-enabled capabilities that improve products and operations, and use AI coding tools and agents as your primary way of building. We value the judgment to direct and verify their work, recognize where AI helps, and turn promising experiments into dependable production systems.
What you'll do:
• Work with Product, Operations, Engineering and users to understand needs, constraints and success criteria. Use data to challenge existing workflows and experiments to test better approaches.
• Take on problems where the causes, intended outcome or ownership are unclear. Use evidence to define the problem, decide where to start and own the solution through production adoption.
• Build backend services, APIs, integrations, and automation that connect business workflows with existing systems. Design for people, AI agents acting for them, and agents using our services directly.
• Develop AI-enabled capabilities using models, business data, retrieval, structured outputs, and tool calling.
• Build agentic workflows where appropriate, with bounded actions, clear permissions, and human review for consequential decisions.
• Evaluate and improve AI behavior using representative cases and production feedback, balancing quality, reliability, latency, and cost.
• Use AI coding tools and agents throughout implementation, debugging, testing and learning. Provide context, review and test their output, and remain accountable for the result.
• Own deployment, monitoring, adoption and follow-through across the work involved. Make technical decisions and responsibilities clear so other engineers can deliver independently; simplify systems and share practical guidance.
What you'll bring:
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Production experience with Go, our primary backend language, including testing, concurrency, and maintainable service design.
• A track record of delivering production outcomes from ambiguous starting points. You can show how you identified the underlying problem, tested competing explanations and established what success meant.
• The ability to understand business workflows, ask useful questions, and explain technical trade-offs to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications or automation, with an understanding of context management, retrieval, structured outputs, and tool calling.
• Experience evaluating AI output, investigating failures, and improving the underlying prompts, data, models, or workflow.
• An understanding of AI risks, including hallucinations, prompt injection and sensitive data exposure, and practical ways to manage them.
• Effective use of AI coding tools, backed by your own technical judgment, code review, and testing.
• The ability to choose between AI and conventional software based on the problem, reliability requirements, complexity, and cost.
• Clear communication in English and comfort working directly with users and stakeholders.
Nice to have:
• Experience in forward deployed engineering, customer-facing implementation, or operational workflow automation.
• Experience taking AI prototypes into production, including evaluation, tracing, and monitoring.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, and event-driven systems.
• Working knowledge of Python or TypeScript.
