Functional Consultant

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Functional Consultant to support a large-scale international POS rollout program.
The future colleague will take a leading role in translating complex country-specific business, operational, fiscal, and payment requirements into sustainable functional solution designs. The Senior Functional Consultant will ensure that solutions can be implemented efficiently within the existing POS platform, system architecture, and global rollout template.
The role requires deep functional knowledge of retail, checkout, and POS systems. The ideal candidate combines strong business process expertise with the ability to evaluate solution options, challenge deviations from the standard, define functional designs, and guide engineering teams during implementation.

Responsibilities
• Lead functional discovery activities for country rollouts, including the analysis of local checkout processes, fiscal requirements, payment methods, integrations, and operational constraints.
• Provide functional leadership during discovery, solution design, implementation, testing, and rollout phases.
• Analyze complex country-specific requirements and assess their impact on the standard POS solution and surrounding system landscape.
• Promote and safeguard the adoption of the global standard solution.
• Challenge local deviations and customization requests where existing platform capabilities or standardized processes can be used.
• Identify, assess, document, and validate functional gaps between country requirements and the standard solution.
• Distinguish genuine legal, fiscal, operational, and business-critical gaps from local preferences or non-essential deviations.
• Translate business requirements into detailed functional designs, solution concepts, process flows, system behavior, business rules, and acceptance criteria.
• Define how country-specific requirements can be implemented within the capabilities and constraints of the existing POS environment.
• Act as the senior functional interface between country stakeholders, discovery squads, product teams, solution architects, engineering squads, integration teams, and rollout teams.
• Support engineering squads during technical solution design and implementation by providing functional guidance and clarifying expected system behavior.
• Review technical solution proposals from a functional perspective to ensure alignment with business requirements and the standard solution.
• Provide functional input for rollout planning, dependency management, and prioritization decisions.
• Support root cause analysis for complex country-specific defects, production issues, and rollout problems.
• Maintain high-quality documentation of requirements, functional designs, decisions, assumptions, dependencies, and end-to-end functional flows.
• Mentor Business Analysts and less experienced functional team members where required.

Qualifications
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience as a Functional Consultant, Senior Business Analyst, Functional Solution Consultant, or in a comparable role.
• Extensive experience working with complex software systems, preferably in an international retail or store technology environment.

Deep functional knowledge of retail, checkout, and POS systems.

Strong understanding of POS processes, system behavior, functional components, integrations, and operational dependencies.

Strong understanding of end-to-end retail processes, particularly checkout, sales transactions, returns, discounts, promotions, receipts, cash management, and store operations.

• Proven ability to assess requirements against existing platform capabilities and identify appropriate standard or customized solutions.
• Strong experience identifying, analyzing, and managing functional gaps in template-based implementation or rollout programs.
• Experience working with fiscal, legal, and regulatory requirements affecting POS systems.
• Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Very good English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice to Have
• Experience in large-scale international POS transformation or rollout programs.
• Experience with fiscal devices, fiscal services, transaction reporting, electronic receipts, or tax authority integrations.
• Understanding of integrations between POS systems and surrounding platforms, such as ERP, pricing, promotion, inventory, master data, loyalty, or order management systems.
