Senior MS SQL Database Administrator

Here is the catch: they currently don’t have a DBA. We are looking for an expert to step in, take the reins, and offload the support, scaling, and maintenance of their 100% cloud-based environment. There is zero on-premise legacy here – all databases are in the cloud (Azure SQL). You will be the go-to data expert, working closely with development teams (.NET/C#/SQLServer stack) and helping them optimize their queries and data architecture. Important: Our client is based in the US (Eastern Time zone). We need someone with excellent English who is comfortable working in non-standard/evening hours. Your Responsibilities: ● Taking Ownership: Assuming full responsibility for scaling, managing, and supporting databases within the Azure SQL environment. ● Performance Optimization: Proactively monitoring and tuning database performance, including advanced indexing and stored procedure optimization. ● Developer Support: Working closely with Development and Scrum teams (.NET/C# stack) to support developers in tuning and optimizing database queries. ● Cloud Management: Leveraging Microsoft Azure services (Azure SQL, COSMOS DB, Data Factory) to ensure high availability and efficiency. ● Architecture & Efficiency: Thinking critically about system performance, data architecture, and long-term efficiency improvements. Technical Requirements: ● Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in database administration. ● Cloud Expertise: At least 2 years of hands-on experience working in Microsoft Azure environments (specifically scaling and managing Azure SQL). ● Database Mastery: Proven, deep experience with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and modern DBA best practices. ● Analytical Mindset: Strong background in analyzing execution plans, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing both system performance and code. ● Team Collaboration: Proven experience working in Agile environments, specifically supporting development teams. ● Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field. Nice to have: ● Proficiency with data tools: SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Power BI, DAX, and Azure Synapse. ● Programming/Scripting skills: Python, R, or PowerShell. ● Knowledge of the .NET/C# ecosystem. ● Experience with cloud migration, Azure Machine Learning, or distributed systems (e.g., Hadoop).
