Senior Backend Engineer, Java

⚡️ We're hiring senior backend engineers with deep Java experience!
If you have a stable hand with backend Java, we'd be very interested in talking to you.
We're filling three seats: two senior Java developers, and one who also knows Camunda well. If BPMN and process orchestration are your thing, we especially want to hear from you.
Makers' Den is a remote-first software studio run by developers, for developers.
We build modern web & mobile apps for global clients using React, React Native, Next.js, and TypeScript - and now we're growing our backend muscle with senior Java Makers.

🧩 What you'll do
• Design, build, and maintain backend services in modern Java (17+) - the current case is a JVM backend, with room to shape its architecture.
• Make the calls that seniors make: API design, data modeling, concurrency, performance, and the trade-offs in between.
• Collaborate directly with clients and teammates - from feature discussions to deployment.
• Review PRs, give feedback, and help keep codebase elegant and reliable.
• Contribute ideas: we value people who think beyond the ticket.

🧠 What we value
•

Solid experience (8+ years) with backend Java, and fluency with the modern JVM ecosystem (Spring Boot or similar, build tooling, testing).
• Real depth where it counts: concurrency, correctness under load, and API design that other teams enjoy consuming.
• Pragmatism - you know when a design pattern earns its keep and when it's ceremony.
• Important extra: Camunda. Hands-on experience with Camunda 7 or 8 (BPMN modeling, workers, process versioning) - at least one of our new Makers needs it. Tell us in your application if this is you.
• Comfort working independently and asynchronously in a remote setup.
• Consistently reporting on progress via PRs, demos via recorded screenshare videos and up-to-date project boards.
• Ability to use AI/LLMs as a force multiplier in delivering your work.
• Optional, but welcome: interest in occasionally crossing into TypeScript/React work.
• Curiosity, humility, and kindness. We like people who make the team better.
